You still have to format the names properly, get the locators right, and get it in on time. The nice thing about indexes like this for beginners is that they're real confidence boosters. Don't worry, the ones that make you tear your hair out will come later. ;-) Cheers, Carol Roberts, indexer and copy editor | I'm not into working out. Having gone through this process myself during the past 4 years, I agree with Carol that it's easier to start out with indexes that are less complicated. The trick for beginners is to decide which projects are good ones to start out with, and which projects are better for folks with more experience. I think it would make a great roundtable at an ASI conference. >> Effective negotiating that includes affirmative naysaying IS a great topic. However, rather than a roundtable with too much background noise and too many people in share mode, I would prefer that ASI consider it as a General Session topic with working audio equipment and the full attention of everyone. Recently I found "Names of Persons: National Usages for Entry in Catalogues" published by K. G. Saur (ISBN: 3598113420). This is the fourth revised and expanded edition. The book, released by the International Federation of Library Association (IFLA), is rather pricey ($125.00), but it might be available by Inter-library Loan. I find that getting any projects at all is the biggest hurdle for beginners. Regards, Homer
