The vexing difficulties described by this article refers to indexing documents, that is, items which contain words. But a potentially equal, if not greater problem, is indexing images without words: photographs, drawing, illustrations. From an indexer's standpoint, however, this may be a potential goldmine of opportunities. I can see indexers specializing in indexing electronic images and photographs of various kinds, and setting up image index systems for clients. Any thoughts about this out there?
